Male, Labradore/Shepherd Mix, 1 year old, 40 pounds Available for Adoption Dog Name: Lionel Suspected Breed(s): Labrador/Shepherd mix Gender: Male Age: 1 year Weight: 40 pounds (will need to gain some weight) Personality: Energetic, Smart, Learns Quickly, Friendly, Outgoing, Eager to Please, Gets along With: Dogs, Not Sure About Cats, Women, Men, Likely ok with Children House Training Progress: He's doing very well with his house training, and definitely knows that outside is the place for doing his 'business.' Crate Training Progress: Lionel sleeps in his crate, and is crated while the fosters are away. He likes having a Kong to keep him company! He is quiet in the crate, but he may not be ready to be crated for more than a few hours during the day. Location: Lionel is being fostered in DC. Rescued From: Pickens County, SC Additional Information: Lionel is a young, high energy dog who wants to please his people and loves to be with them. He appears comfortable with men, women, and other dogs. He hasn't been observed with kids day-to-day, but he has met some kids ranging in age from 9 months to 7 years, and he didn't jump or show any aggression. He was also very tired from a long day at the dog park so it's not clear whether he'd be more unruly when he was at his peak energy. He's only met one cat as a CDR dog, and while he wasn't aggressive, he didn't want to interact. Lionel loves to play, loves toys (like a frozen Kong stuffed with something tasty--yum!). He's a wonderfully loyal guy who also is welcoming to visitors at his home, and happy to meet new people. At his age and energy level, he needs lot of playtime and exercise (he's walked and/or goes to the dog park 3 or 4 times a day), and toys to chew that won't fall apart easily (so far he's only chewed the things he's supposed to chew). He's good on the leash and using a Gentle Leader. Like all young dogs, he needs some training, but he's quickly learned some basic commands and manners. He's also very handsome, and will definitely make his adopter proud! This fee typically includes health care provided before adoption: all age-appropriate rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccinations, flea and heartworm prevention prior to adoption, spay/neuter procedure, microchip when available, SNAP test for parasites, initial health check vet visit when going from the municipal shelter to City Dogs Rescue, and pre-adoption health care for dogs over the age of 1 year as needed.
